Cloud computing Maturity

Cloud computing has come a long way since its inception. When it was first introduced to the market, many people and organizations had their reservations about joining the cloud. Many organizations did not want to move their services to the cloud since they could not trust a service provider hosting their sensitive data in an offsite location where they do not even know about the security of the data. The same applied to people too. Many people decided to wait until all issues that could affect the data stored in cloud were identified and fixed. However, laying back and waiting does not mean that you and your company are better. That is actually the opposite of what you think. Laying back implies that you are losing all the benefits that other companies are enjoying by outsourcing to the cloud.

It is a known fact that more and more experience ensures better chances of success. That means that organizations which moved the cloud first have better chances of doing well in the cloud than companies that decided to wait it out and join the cloud once they were sure that it was safe. Actually using the cloud is becoming easier every day as more improvements are made to the cloud platforms by the developers and the cloud service providers. For instance, a survey done on a group of cloud users revealed that the scalability and performance of infrastructure as a service or IaaS was more than 71% among cloud users who have been on the cloud for more than four years. The figure drops considerably to 22% among respondents who have recently joined the cloud.

The survey also revealed that experienced cloud users are in a better position when it comes to setting achievable expectations and getting results. People who have used the cloud services fop sometime also have mature perspectives on the applications that work well in the cloud and they also tend to have reasonable objectives for their cloud initiatives. Many companies are realizing that they need a structured way when moving to the cloud. The surveys showed that majority of companies that have moved to the cloud have done it in an impressive manner.
